Shafaq News/ The Kurdistan Coalition continues to make steps to accelerate the holding of parliamentary elections, which includes the three governorates of the region, despite the differences that loom on the horizon of the political situation in the region and of the position of the Kurdish opposition, which seems to vote to approve on the law of the councils of the governorates of the region has settled its dispute with the rest of the alliance, In addition to the position of the components of the region, especially Christians. The vote on the governorates election law of the region have proceeded in a normal atmosphere after making adjustments to it despite the delay.
Within this atmosphere, the Kurdistan Region Parliament voted by a majority of votes at the elections law governorates of the region, while the session witnessed the withdrawal of representatives of the Christians due to their opposition to  the voting on some provisions of the law.
The Kurdistani MP Ali Hussein Faily said to "Shafaq News", "The Kurdistan Region Parliament, voted by majority for the draft elections law of the governorates of the region after extensive discussions of the terms of the law.

, "The differences are many, and there are varied views and opinions of many parliamentary blocs on many of the terms of the bill that led to the postponement of the morning session to the afternoon session," Faily explained, adding that "the agreement was to make the adjustments on some of the items that was voted by a majority of the audience."
"The Christian bloc in the parliament of Kurdistan withdrew from the voting session in protest at the taking back of a clause that grants (quota) for the Christian component in the region." Said Faily.
The representatives of the Christians in the Kurdistan Region Parliament, admitted that the reasons for their withdrawal from the vote on the amendments of the governorates councils election law because they were not given a quota, and argued that the Legal Committee announced its agreement to the principle of the quota for Christians in the law of the Governorates and districts elections .
" Chaldo Assyrians block and Syrians sent delegates which  met with the Legal Committee to develop a quota for Christians in the amendments of the of districts and counties election law, and it  was approved by the Legal Committee." The MP of Chaldo Assyrian and Syrians block Susan Khoshabh said to "Shafaq  News",
"We were surprised today to reject our proposal by the Legal Committee, and the presidency of the parliament, and this is what called our bloc for the withdrawal from the vote on the amendments." She added.
And on the reasons which made the representatives of Christians to claim quota ,Khoshabh explained that "The proportional representation of the Christian component does not guarantee the electing  of representatives of the Christians, so we asked for quota representation, similar to what happened in the Parliament of the Kurdistan Region."
As for the operational procedures that accompany the election process the source in Erbil revealed that, the governorates of Kurdistan elections law which was voted by the Kurdistan Parliament authorized the Internal Security Forces in the region exclusively the responsibility to protect the elections to be held after three months of its issuance.
"The parliament of the Kurdistan Region voted on the governorates of the region election law, authorized the Internal Security Forces exclusively the responsibility to protect the electoral process," The source said  in a statement to "Shafaq  News", explaining that "The other security services such as (Ashayis) forces, and others are not entitled to participate in protecting the electoral process. "
"The law set for 90 days after approval to conduct the elections, to ensure its conduction on time, and reassure all parties that suspect that it could be held without delay or postponement." The source, who requested anonymity said.
And on the request of the Electoral Commission for elections for 180 days to complete the preparations for the elections, the source said  that "The law specified a period of 90 days from the date of its announcement, to conduct the elections," adding that "The law stipulates that if elections can not be held on schedule according to its provisions, the  current governorates council are not entitled for the extension of the current work only for 90 days, "in reference to the possibility of compatibility between the provisions of this law and the requirements of the Electoral Commission for elections in terms of time needed for preparations for the elections without any breach of the law.
Faced with these developments, the head of the electoral circle in the Electoral Commission for elections, said on Wednesday  that the position of Commissioner about the period set by the Kurdistan Parliament for the elections of the governorates councils will be determined at a meeting after the holiday.
"The subject of elections of the region is not new and we have been working for a long time with the Parliament and the Regional government to organize the elections," Qassim Abboodi  said in an interview with "Shafaq  News", noting that "The Commission held several meetings with the Legal Committee of the Parliament of the Region and put the amendments and the final touches on the law. "
Abboodi added that "The coming days will witness the opening of the registration centers in Kurdistan, and there is a plan in place already provided to the Parliament of the Regional government by the Commission. It contained all the details of the electoral process."
About the Commission position on the duration of the 90 days set by the regional parliament for the election the head of the electoral circle explained   "We will study that in a meeting after the holiday and we will inform the authorities of the Region about our position ."
He explained that the Commission made great strides to prepare for the elections," Almost a year ago, we had discussions with the authorities in the Region of Kurdistan and the budget has been identified  and a part of it has been released. "
It seems that the efforts of political leaders and representatives of the House of Representatives in the Kurdistan Region tend to the resolution according  to the satisfaction of most parties after the Kurdish opposition had settled its mind to vote yes to the law of the governorates councils elections.
With regard to the position of Christians, some observers believed that the talks between their representatives and representatives of the Kurdistan Alliance in the Kurdistan Parliament and officials of the Region will continue to reach a satisfactory settlement for all parties and put Kurdistan on the track of sound development.
