Maliki revives the issue of Faily Kurds, and put himself at the "default"
Shafaq News/ The statements of Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki, which he said at the second general conference for the Faily Kurds, held in Baghdad last week in which he demanded a separate identity of the Faily Kurds still raise a lot of controversy especially in the Kurdish circles including the Faily ones.
Observers noted that most of the views declared by the representatives of Faily Kurds were directed to object to the statement in Maliki's speech at the Conference.
The woman Faily Kurdish activist Fa'iza Bapakhan said in an interview with "Shafaq News", she attended the conference and she was "the first among the objectors of Maliki's speech, "pointing out that his speech is" an invitation to strip the Faily Kurds from their nationality and Kurdish identity to make them join the sectarian identity.
Bapakhan referred to al-Maliki affirmation that Faily Kurds were wronged as Kurds and Shiite. She said that he paved the way for their separation ,by saying that the Faily Kurds were the best supporters of the Da'awa Party and of the trends of The House Owners ( A'al Albeit) and they were wronged in the time of the former regime. He talked about their rights of citizenship and movable and immovable property rights and their disappeared people and martyrs.
She commended the initiatives of the Kurdish government and procedures of granting the salaries of chaste people of the Faily Kurds and helping in recruitment and she referred to the efforts of the" Kurdish government with the support of the Kurdish leadership for the issuance and certification of the Federal Court decision which counted the crimes Faily Kurds were subjected to , by the former regime as genocide, mentioning that" the Kurdish leadership is a partner of the Federal Government and the Kurdish government is a partner in the decision, not the only decision owner . "
Bapakhan blamed the Faily Kurds for not to identify themselves and to follow up their demands and said , " Faily Kurds are still dispersed between their sect and their nationalism," pointing out that many of the Faily Kurds have joined other parties, including Law State and other blocs.
" They did not join these parties as they are Kurds belonging to the Kurdistani bloc."Said she.
For her part, the President of the Charity Organization for the Liberal Faily Kurds and Widad Faily said "We as Faily organizations and personalities have got our privacy. First, we are Kurds and secondly Shiites suffered torture, displacement, and have made much sacrifices," emphasizing that the Faily "are first Kurds and secondly Shiites. We participated in all Kurdish national and democratic movements, and we are a part of the Kurdish nation."
"We ask Maliki to pay attention to issues of Faily Kurds, and their tragedies, and there have been eight years and still all their outstanding transactions and rights on the table without a solution." She continued , pointing out that the default toward the Faily Kurds rights exists in all political movements in the Iraqi arena .They marginalize them, and we demand from the two major parties in Kurdistan and the Kurdistan Regional Government to pressure on the central government to restore the rights of Faily Kurds, and call Faily Kurds to stand and have unity "so that we can solve our problems."
"We are a part of the Kurdish component, and one of the components of the Iraqi people, It is not possible to get out of the Kurdish component. " The president of the Faily Kurds society Maher Rashid Hussein said .He referred to the existence of a" failure "of Kurdish Leadership and marginalization" by some officials who did not understand the needs and requirements of the Kurds outside the Kurdistan region, " He said ,adding," We supported the Kurdish nationalist movement, and gave many sacrifices and martyrs for the Kurdish revolution. "
Faily Kurdish organizations and personalities and dignitaries emphasized on the national identity of the Faily Kurds, warning of "consequences of any attempt to undermine the national identity of Faily Kurds under any excuses or reasons.
A statement issued in Baghdad by a press conference attended by "Shafaq News" said , "We are the organizations and personalities and dignitaries and citizens of the Faily Kurds in the time that we appreciate some of the steps and decisions taken in the new Iraq, which we hope to pave the way for the resolutions and other legislations for the realization of our usurped rights, and we warn some of those who occupy centers of power in Iraq now of the consequences of any attempt to undermine the national identity of Faily Kurds under any excuses or reasons."
However, observers noted that the conference and the statement issued by it did not receive the required attention by the representatives of the Kurdistan powers who did not come to the Conference as well as the federal government, despite the importance and sensitivity of the Faily Kurds issue, especially in this time of heightened controversy over their rights. through the opinions and attitudes displayed by representatives of the Faily Kurds in various orientations and political views.
It seems that the trend in their circles is the objection of the speech of Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki expressed at the Second Conference of the Faily Kurds, who called for a separate identity for the Faily Kurds, but is that refusal enough to restore the lost rights of the Faily Kurds and to access to crucial decisions to end the suffering of many of them, especially with regard to issues of properties and nationality, and do the Faily Kurds reach in their turn, to achieve unity and cohesion which is demanded by some to impose their attitudes on political reality and the restoration of rights instead of their communities being kept confidential and their conferences being without attention paid by others ?| < Prev | Next > |
