Threat of prosecution mosques preachers in Kurdistan

The Ministry of Entailed Estates and Religious Affairs in the Kurdistan region announced …

that it is taking legal action against a number of preachers because their disdain against Judaism and Christianity.

A spokesman of  the ministry Mariwan Naqshabandi, a number of preachers in the city of Irbil used the pulpits last Friday to disdain Judaism, Christianity under the guidance of Islamic parties.

The ministry will discipline the speakers because they violated the orders and disrespected the religious shrines, and this behavior threatens religious and peaceful coexistence in the region. He noted the intention to try the speakers.

Naqshabandi in a press statement explained that the number of speakers does not exceed the six, noting that the speeches were inciting, and contrary to the Ministry's instructions calling for respect for religions and sanctities of religion.

Naqshabandi accused Islamist parties in the region that they are implementating suspicious Islamic countries agendas and he did not mention them by name. He said that those parties were seeking to undermine security and stability in the Kurdistan region.
