Opening of Legal advisory offices for battered women in all provinces of the country

shafaaq news/ The member of the Commission on Human Rights Ashwaq  Aljaf said  in an interview with "Shafaq  News" "The committee is working to empower women financially by offering proposals of laws guaranteeing them a kind of independence and dispense with the need," asserting that "women need educational programs to their legal rights because when women are familiar with the legal texts that preserve their rights they will be able to claim their rights and provide protection to them. "

She said that "there is a need to provide, legal advisory offices provides for women legal advice without charge, and wages is the responsibility of the state," indicating that "the Human Rights Commission is considering a proposal to open these offices in all provinces to be linked to the provincial council or the offices of the House of Representatives."

The Ministry of State for Women's Affairs signed with the United Nations, last year, a working paper for  a joint program between the two, which  contains three main topics: the writing of High National Strategy for the Advancement of Women, and the strategy against violence against women, and writing of  a draft law on protection against domestic violence, and promoted through the establishment of six workshops of  awareness, in several provinces.

Activists are demanding the government to provide support for women as weak entities in society, faced with the phenomenon of domestic violence "as that a large proportion of women suffer from the violence of their husband or father or brother."

The Article 41 of the Penal Code allows the husband to beat his wife to discipline her, and Article 377 of the Penal Code provides that if the husband has sexual intercourse with another woman in a place other than the marital home he is not counted as an offender or perpetrator of the crime of adultery, while the wife wherever she committed adultery she is counted as a "prostitute."
