Parliamentary Investment Committee charged the government of being "failed" to attract investors to Iraq

Shafaq News /" Most of the government ministries are responsible for the failure of the investment sector and attracting investors to Iraq. " The member of the parliamentary  Committee of Economy and investment Abdul Hussein Abtan said to "Shafaq News"The obstacles the investors facing in the government departments such as financial and administrative corruption and extortion by some of the staff caused the decline in investment in all areas." He added .The parliamentary finance committee, revealed earlier, that the International Monetary Fund in its recent visit to Iraq, called the House of Representatives not to enact laws that contribute to undermine the growth of the Iraqi economy, indicating that the legislation of laws increases the operational budget at the expense of investment budget and that irritated the International Monetary Fund.Abtan called for "the formation of an integrated system in which most of the state institutions with the participation of the private sector to move the wheel of investment and attract investors."He noted that "in Iraq today, there is a breeding ground to encourage investors to invest in all sectors, and we need a larger institution than the current investment body."

The House of representative passed in October 2006 the Iraqi investment law, about which it was said at the time that it would open the doors wide the foreign investment, due to offering a lot of facilities to foreign investors. Many foreign companies are still hesitant because of fears that the security situation is not stable in Iraq, adding that the law did not give investors the right of the real estate of the project ownership, and it equated the Iraqi investors with the foreign investors , in all the privileges, except in owning  the property. The  foreign investor can rent the land for 50 years in a , renewable contract , according to paragraph 11 of the Investment Law.
