Iraq burns 700 million cubic feet of associated gas per day

Shafaq t News/ "Companies that extract Iraqi oil burn700 million cubic meters of associated gas every day." According to experts in the oil sector, Iraq is able to achieve self-sufficiency of gas in the case of the exploitation of associated gas to extract the oil instead of burning it .” The member of the parliamentary Commission on oil and energy Bayazid Hassan said to  "Shafaq  News".
He called "to take advantage of this gas to provide  energy for many industrial facilities, productivity, and the search for sustainable alternative energies, similar to developed countries."
The experts confirmed that the pollution produced by burning this amount of gas in Basra, is estimated to be  20 million tons of pollutants per year which are equivalent to the pollutants emitted from three million cars per year.
"the burning of associated gas with oil leaves environmental devastating effects, not to mention the economic losses resulting from the import of gas from other countries and the burning of gas in Iraq." He said .
The Iraqi Oil Ministry signed, earlier, a final contract with a consortium of Shell and Mitsubishi Gas Company to establish  Basra gas company .
Iraq currently imports between 500 - 1000 tons of liquefied petroleum gas (cooking gas LPG) per day.
