Basra calls for al-Maliki to end the problems with Kuwait and welcomes the investments of the latter.
Shafaq News/ The Council of Basra province called, on Tuesday, for Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki to resolve all the files and the outstanding problems between Basra and Kuwait during his upcoming visit, welcoming the latter approval to drop the debts owed by Iraq
in return for investment.The vice president of the provincial council in Basra Ahmed Sulaiti said to "Shafaq News", " We was informed so far on the participation of officials from the province of Basra in the delegation which will accompany Prime Minister Maliki in his upcoming visit to Kuwait, and we ask the Prime Minister to resolve all outstanding problems between Basra and Kuwait ".The State of Law coalition revealed to "Shafaq News", earlier, the Iraqi government is developing a mechanism to resolve outstanding issues with the State of Kuwait, adding that communication between the two sides with respect to this matter is ongoing .
"the province of Basra, has got many problems with the Kuwaiti side by virtue of its geographical location, and Basra must have its word in solving these problems and files in the visit of Prime Minister to Kuwait." Sulaiti said
Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki received a phone call by the end of last year, from the Prime Minister of Kuwait, Jabir Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah asking him to visit Kuwait, but Alsabah told him to postpone his visit because of the preoccupation with the elections in Kuwait.
Sulaiti expressed his welcome for "the willingness of the Kuwaiti side to drop the remaining debt on Iraq in return for its investments in many fields, especially in the province of Basra."
