Legal Committee confirms that there is no possibility of commutation of death sentences for those convicted Arabs

Shafaq News/ The parliamentary legal committee confirmed on, Sunday, that it was not possible to commute the death sentences of those convicted Arabs involved  in the armed operations in Iraq, indicating that the amnesty law does not give anyone permission to do so.

The Moroccan Foreign Minister Sa’ad Eddin Ottomani announced at the first symposium to him after holding Foreign Affairs portfolio in the new government, that his ministry has assured the families of detainees to inform them with the steps taken in this regard, such as contact with the Iraqi authorities and coordination with the International Committee of the Red Cross, and that this move was in the wake of reports about the implementation of the death sentence against the Moroccan citizen Badr Ashouri.

The member of the Legal Committee and the National Alliance MP Hassoun Fatlawi said in an interview with "Shafaq  News" that "It is impossible to commute sentences of convicted Arab criminals coming to Iraq and involved in armed act, and  the attempts of certain countries in this regard is a violation of the law", stressing the independence of the judiciary and its not allowing anyone to interfere in its decisions.

"some Arab countries do not have an independent judiciary so leaders and their ministers interfere in those issues, and this violate the Iraqi Constitution," He said ,adding that "The House of Representatives  is on legislation the General Amnesty Law which does not include those involved in issues of terrorism, whether they are Iraqis or Arabs. It will not give the power to the three authorities to interfere in that. "
