Shafaq News/ A monthly opinion poll conducted by the Shafaq News site on its website, showed that a rate of 8.76% of voters favor the formation of regions similar to the Kurdistan Region, 8.20% declined this idea, 4.2% of the voting, showed indifference for this issue.3681 voters participated in the survey, which lasted for the period from 28th  of last November until 28th  of the current December.The question of "Shafaq  News" raised was: Do you support the formation of Regions in the country similar to Kurdistan Region?, Where 2827 people answered (Yes), and 764 answered (No), while 90 people answered (I do not know).

The Council of Salahuddin province, voted by majority, earlier on counting the province  as  administrative and economic Region  within a unified Iraq, followed by the province of Diayala later to announce it a region like what he has been  done  by the Council of Saladin, but the Council of Diayala changed their mind about the decision as  a result of what they called the popular rejection and the rejection of the federal government.

It is said that the Iraqia List led by Iyad Allawi said, earlier, that the statements of Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki on the mechanism of the formation of regions reflect the lack of understanding of the Constitution and the law, as they pointed out that the Council of Ministers is obliged to transfer the request of Salahuddin administration about the Region to  a referendum within 15 days .

It is noteworthy that Article 116 of the Iraqi Constitution states that each province or more has the right of composing  a region based on the request for a referendum .  The request is to be submitted by one third of members in each of the provincial councils intending to form a region, or one tenth of the voters in the province.
