Iraq announces the completion of the draft Convention on the exchange of prisoners with Saudi Arabia

Shafaq News/ The Iraqi Foreign Ministry, revealed on Thursday, that the draft agreement of the exchange of prisoners between Iraq and Saudi Arabia was completed and will be sent to the latter to sign it  as soon as the Iraqi government finishes its scrutiny. "The Iraqi side and Saudi Arabia exchanged notes on access to the final version of the draft Convention on the exchange of prisoners between the two sides." The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Labeed Abbawi said to "Shafaq  News","Efforts of our embassy in Riyadh are going on to follow up files of Iraqi detainees in Saudi Arabia, and  the Foreign Ministry received reports on an ongoing situation of them." He added.Iraq and Iran has signed in the spring of 2009 a joint memorandum of understanding provides for the exchange of prisoners between the two countries, but memorandum was carried out so far by the Iraqi side only , as Iraq sent dozens of Iranian prisoners to the authorities of their country, in the past few years and in January 2011 a decree was issued by President Jalal Talabani  to release 50 Iranian detainees in Iraqi prisons for entering Iraq illegally.
