Parliament announces rejection of a proposal for giving the presidency 15 days to ratify the death sentences

Shafaq News/ The parliamentary legal committee announced, on Thursday, refusing to amend the Law of Criminal Procedure made by the National Alliance, stressing that the amendment is contrary to the Constitution within the powers set out for the presidency. " The committee rejected the proposal to amend the Criminal Procedure made by the ten members of the National Alliance, which provides for the granting of the presidency for 15 days to ratify the death sentences and otherwise the sentence is certified " . The member of the Legal Committee Latif  Sheikh Mustafa said in an interview with "Shafaq  News"The Iraqia List MP Hussein al-Sha’alan had counted earlier, "The  proposal to amend the Criminal Procedure Act as an infringement on the powers of the presidency.”According to Sheikh Mustafa "Death sentences are not carried out only by a presidential decree and this is what the text of the Constitution contains , and the amend the Law of Criminal Procedure eliminates the constitutional authority of the Presidency," stressing that "The MPs who believe that the Presidency of the Republic hinder ratification of the death sentences can collect signatures to punish  the presidency, and this  solution is constitutional and legal. "He said .
