The contemporary Iraqi state between civilization and tribalism

Shafaq The tribal values always represented an important pillar of the political history…

and it turned to be a dangerous factor that threatens the society's stability according to Iraqi sociologists and political experts . This led the new Iraqi state builders o consider tribalism as the most important challenge that threatens their project of reforming the state .

The former PM Wa'il Abdullatif said in a talk to Shafaq :" Is Iraq now marching towards the civilized state or the tribal state ? If it is marching towards the civilized state , that means strengthening the role of the civil power and reinforcing the role of the judiciary to solve the disputes which occurs among the individuals and this is  the duty of the state . As for the base of consolidating the tribal role , that means lessening a part of the  civil state in the interest of the tribal state.

For his part the PM from the National alliance Abdul Hadi AL Hassani said :"The role of the tribes is different today from it was under the former governments . It is now considered to be  a tributary and strong  supporter to strengthen the National spirit  . He added that the tribes are today working  for building the new state of citizenship and they respect the law and we are now in front of a new experiment that confirm the truth of the tribes cohesion in the melting pot of the state and homeland .
