Faily Kurds in Nasiriyah, lost rights and lingering hopes

The city of Nasiriyah is located in the south-west of Iraq on the Euphrates River ...

It is the capital of Dhi Qar and It is the fourth largest populated city after Baghdad, Basra and Mosul, and the current city of Nasiriyah, was built in 1870 AD on the banks of the Euphrates River.

To identify the conditions of the Faily Kurds in the city of Nasiriyah, we met with a number of citizens.

Ali Mohammed Berwari said: "The date of the Faily Kurds being in the city of Nasiriyah started tens of years ago and they lived in the city centers of Shatrah, Gharraf, and Rifa'i. They had been subjected to persecution during the former regime and they are still suffering nowadays .No one takes care of their affairs or inspect their conditions. "

For his part, the citizen Abdul Karim Abdul Ali Faily said  " When the Faily Kurds first came to the city of Nasiriyah  they have entered the craft businesses such as blacksmithing, carpentry, and then they owned lands and worked in the field of agriculture, especially in the area of Al Rifa'i, Shatrah and Alhaiy."

Sheik Fadhil Saiyhood, one of the Faily Kurds dignitaries said  "The Faily Kurds lived in Nasiriyah since 1890, and they had the nationality and citizenship certificates, but after 1970, the Baathist regime withdrew their identification documents  . So they found themselves without rights by which they would  ensure their future," .

He said to Shafaq :" His identity as well as his family members identities had been taken from them and they had been imprisoned in Radhwaniyah prison . Many of the relatives were executed, during the former regime period.

He explained that "There are many Faily prestigious personalities which emerged on the cultural and social levels in Nasiriyah
