The Thinker Ahmed Al katib: There is no such thing as a clergy in Islam

He was born on June 13, 1953 in Karbala. His mother taught him the alphabet and reading the Quran, …

when he was seventh his father took him to a private modern school which was(Imam al-Sadiq School) and in 1960, he registered him, with one of the writers who was, Sheikh Abdul Karim.

Shafaq interviewed him:

Q.I. : What is your opinion about some clergymen 's  involvement in politics ?

C - I.  First of all there is nothing in Islam called "clergyman" but this word is received from the Christian West, which have been used against the men of this world, or secular, but there is in Islam, "theologians" and those do not constitute a special class in a distinct category. But most scholars today and most of the Islamic movements support democracy, and even those who adopted the theory of clerical scholar rule, supported democracy and elections as a basis for choosing the fair clerical scholar (Wilayat al Faqih). General scholars and leaders of Islamic movements today believe in the democratic regime.

Q: Ideological shifts take a long time for a country like Iraq, what is their positive or negative impact?

C - There is a significant positive development happening in Iraq, thank God,  the Shi'ites and  the Sunnis are adopting a new contemporary democratic thought, a political thought which guarantees their reunification and bring them together for one word . So nothing left from their historic dispute except some trivial remnants of some customs and traditions

Q: Some people believe that the clergypersons are a class having a financial, political and legal presence, what is the extent of its danger against religion?

C - This is true to a certain percentage, and that might have come into existence when the Shiites had no faith in political action earlier or non-involvement in the Iraqi state. It is hoped that the role of religious authority in the future will be reduced. This especially is becoming more possible with the rejection of top scientists to the theory of Wilayat al Faqih (the clerical scholar rule), or the General Prosecutor for Imam Mahdi. Accordingly the people will be able to choose their rulers and representatives and officials away from the dominance of religious authority?
