Iraqi government: we are exposed to devastating torrents

Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi described the wave of torrential rains that hit several cities as "devastating."
A statement by Abdulmahdi's office said that he was personally following up on the developments of the torrential rains that hit the district of Sharqat and other areas of Salah al-Din and Nineveh governorates, and led to a number of deaths and missing persons.
He added that Abdul Mahdi "immediately formed a crisis cell from the Salahaddin Operations Command and all civilian formations in the local government, backed by helicopters and heavy vehicles to intervene immediately and direct supervision of rescue operations to reduce human and material losses and strengthen defenses against the expected increase in water levels during the next two days."
Iraqi forces, air forces and civil defense teams entered into a state of preparedness to cope with the torrential rains that accompanied heavy rains.
